  17. SAN MATEO, Calif., October 31, 1993 - Lighthouse Design, Ltd. today
  18. shipped its Foundation Classes, a library of reuseable Objective-C
  19. classes designed to complement NEXTSTEP's ApplicationKit. The
  20. Foundation Classes provide NEXTSTEP developers with a suite of
  21. proven software components to accelerate development of mission
  22. critical applications, while serving as a solid cornerstone for
  23. in-house object repositories.

  25. "The Foundation Classes made the development of our Pencil Me In
  26. scheduling software much easier," said Andrew K. Turk, president of
  27. Sarrus Software, Inc. "Because the Foundation Classes had already
  28. been thoroughly tested, we could reuse the code in our own
  29. development, saving Sarrus time and money. But the real leverage we
  30. got was the freedom to focus on solving customers' enterprise
  31. scheduling problems rather than on reinventing the wheel."

  33. The Foundation Classes provide NEXTSTEP developers with a basic
  34. suite of object oriented building blocks on which to base their own
  35. application development. The library includes components to handle
  36. character strings, flexible collections like lists, sets, stacks
  37. and queues, along with separate classes to automate error handling
  38. and reporting. Together, these components are found at the heart of
  39. most business and technical applications.

  50. the development of Diagram!, an information graphics program,
  51. Concurrence, a multi-media presentation program, and Lighthouse

  53. result of such heavy usage on tens of thousands of customer
  54. desktops, the Foundation Classes are among the safest and most
  55. widely-deployed ObjectWare available for any platform.
